Two innovative SUVs, the Mazda CX-70 and Mazda CX-90, have plug-in hybrid versions for your Omaha commutes. They both deliver 26 miles of electric-only range, allowing you to drive most of the distance from Fremont to Omaha (35 miles) and back again on electricity with one brief charging session during the trip. You’ll need to charge your PHEV in Omaha before heading back to Fremont (or vice versa), and we’ve got you covered with our guide to the PHEV charging stations between Fremont and Omaha.
About two-thirds of the way to Omaha sits Valley. There is a public charging station at Valley City Hall to recharge your PHEV battery. It’s a Level 2 station, with two chargers available. It costs 25 cents per hour. Level 2 charging times are usually around 10-20 miles per hour of charging time.
On Omaha’s west side, just off U.S. Highway 6 (Dodge Road), is Metropolis Community College on Cumberland Road. You’ll find two free Level 2 chargers! So, if you work near this area, you could park your vehicle for a bit and come back.
There is a DMV office near Dodge Road and 168th Street. In that area, you’ll find three auto dealerships that have free or low-cost Level 2 public charging stations. If you need to get new license plates for your vehicle near Blair, you could charge your PHEV.
Two offices, Retire SMART and Quantum Workplace, on FNB Parkway, offer four Level 2 chargers. These are very low cost, with free charging for the first four hours and then 18 cents a minute after that. A PHEV will fully charge in the free time.
The clubhouse at Park 125, an apartment complex at 12500 West Dodge Road, has two Level 2 chargers that cost $2.50 for one hour of charging. This is the last charging station before you hit I-680 on your way toward downtown Omaha.
At 8601 and 8701 West Dodge, there are three total Level 2 chargers. This is a great place to park if you work in this financial district or at the nearby hospital.
